Welcome to topohiker.com, the blogging hiking biking shooting photography page of Chris "Criminal" Caserta
This is the home page of Chris “Criminal” Caserta; Air Force retiree, former Lockheed C-141B Starlifter Flight Engineer, hiker, backpacker, photographer, shooter, mountain biker, amateur radio enthusiast, Jeeper, and now, web designer. topohiker.com is a place for family, friends, and enemies to keep track of what I'm doing, saying, and thinking.
The name topohiker comes from my love for off-trail hiking and backpacking. It's easy enough to hike down a path until you get to where you're going, but therein lies the problem; it's easy enough for anyone to hike down the path and get to where you're going. Topohiking is where you pick a point on a map, like a lake or summit, and navigate your way there without the aid of a trail system. With a good topographic map (and maybe a
GPS receiver as a back-up) you can hike own navigation
I decided to create my own website for a number of reasons. First off, I need some place to post photos and hiking trip reports. I don’t use myspace or facebook either, so this is pretty much it. I also occasionally have something to say that doesn’t fit into Twitter’s 140 character space limitation. Additionally, I think designing and developing a website will be an interesting diversion during the cold rainy winters here in the Puget Sound. All the photos and graphics are mine unless otherwise noted, as are all the articles and essays. I will blog from time to time and when I figure out how to (safely) allow comments, I will add that feature.
I am using
Microsoft’s Expression Studio,
Expression Web 2-3 and
Expression Design mainly, to build this website and create some of the images used in the pages (the graphic at the top of the page and the
mailbox on the
Contact page for example). This is a complex software suite and I’m still learning to use it. My goal is a simple, clean, and easy to read, easy to navigate website.
Please feel free to send traffic my way via mentions or links, but all content is protected by copyright and used only with express permission, which is remarkably easy to get.
